                                                                           Bryan Wynia

                                                                           Ben Mauro

                                                                           Aaron Beck

to educate and share their practices and knowledge in the industry. Please note that all work shown are still in progress

Firstly, the two environment pieces were originally observational drawings of photographs I had taken, then afterward included with science fictional elements. The city scape piece (concept 2) was a swift and loose style of a drawing exercise that also involved reverting objects to a primitive and abstract level, in order to understand composition. However the forest and space station scenario scene (concept 1), follows the typical digital painting procedure of combining photo reference into a painting.

Secondly, two more mech designs were created. One design was inspired by a spider and scorpion and the other by two strange animals, which at this time I’m not sure what they’re called. The mechs and environment work were produced during the classes taught by the illustrious Khang Lee.
Thirdly character design was undertaken, led and instructed by the talented duo of Mike Yamada and Victoria Ying. I decided to attempt to mature and redesign the video game character Megaman, to suit a more adult audience and context.

Finally the insightful and jovial Bryan Wynia demonstrated how to use the 3D program “Z-brush” to achieve photo realistic pieces of work, which involved sculpting some characters with the choice of producing a vampire lord or grunt. This is my first foray in using the program and below are two outcomes of what I have managed to create thus far. I chose to model vampire lords. In addition to Bryan, Ben Mauro also provided a demonstration of his procedure using z-brush and created other types of creatures for the workshop’s enjoyment.

It was a great privilege and honour to meet these six of the world’s top class concept artists/ designers in the entertainment industry.

Words cannot describe my sincere gratitude, for the wealth of knowledge they have each shared, which has been immensely helpful with my growth as an aspiring concept artist/ designer.

In addition to these six, I look forward to next week, meeting and absorbing the knowledge of Jaime Jones, witnessing Aaron Beck’s superb abilities next week, not to mention reinforcing what I have previously learnt from the great Simon Scales, who is incidentally the brilliant person that I’ll forever be grateful to, in founding this fantastic school that teaches vfx and concept art/ design.

Journal Ambience #5

Welcome back to a fresh week of art and design brought to you by Marc Forza Design’s: Journal Ambience #5. This week is hoping to please many, with a load of content.

The work includes ideation and work in progress for Marc’s illustrative entry into Sketch Theatre.com’s “Dragon Rider’s” Competition, further ideation for a new personal project in the works, more mech concepts and updates made in improving Marc Forza Design’s online presence.

First of all Sketch Theatre’s brief is to illustrate “...cool dragon warriors, standing next to their epic mount, flying in the air or perhaps even in battle”. The stipulation also is that it can only be produced traditionally.

Marc’s illustration is intended to capture a fierce battle between two dragon warrior clans mounted on their respective dragons. A glimpse of the final composition can be seen in a few of the thumbnail ideations shown that paints the scene of the foreground’s dragon warrior clan, mounted upon a two-headed dragon with one head biting into the neck of the opposing dragon warrior clan’s dragon, in addition with both clans engaged in a deadly firefight skirmish. The illustration is obviously still in progress, but it’s outcome will be shown next week.

The second piece of work is ideation (top right page scan of ideation work - 4 sketches along the bottom) for a new personal narrative in progress. The theme is “Close and Cherished Bonding”. In addition to the thumbnails for this project (that you have all seen this procedure repeated in previous posts that serve to first provide a brief understanding of what the aesthetic of the given narrative will be), spotlighted for the first time is the other crucial element used by Marc Forza Design in the pre-production phase of any project is a mindmap.
Mindmap - Narrative Idea #3 - "The Laws & Challenge of Attraction"
Mindmap - Narrative Idea #4 - "Close and Cherished bonding"

Conceptualised and theorised by Tony and Barry Buzan, this method of thinking, helps to consolidate one’s thoughts and ideas towards a single intended goal or outcome. Particularly, shown above are two of the mindmaps that Marc is developing and attempting to fulfill (apologies for the poor quality images. This will be corrected for next time). This procedure is beneficial when working, in that it doesn’t waste mental energy and time.

The third piece involved some more mech ideation (bottom right page scan of ideation work - 3 sketches from the bottom up) following the procedure used by the illustrious Scott Robertson. This involves applying light marker to create a silhouette of the design and then using pen or pencil over top of it to add in the details. This is a fairly quick process to facilitate fast and fresh ideas and was interesting to experiment with.  Scott shares his design methods and secrets on you his youtube channel at:

Journal Ambience #4

It might be a few days late, but Journal Ambience #4 makes it return with some new concept art and a portraiture piece of artwork for a close client.

The concept art continues the bizarre fantasy genre from last week with the inclusion of drama. The work is currently in the ideation stage and are artwork/ designs for an original narrative. At this stage a pitch can’t be made concerning what the story is, but the subtextual theme is “the laws and challenge of attraction”.

In regard to the portrait, since last week it has been a bit of a tongue in cheek joke by Marc who the client is. But it is in fact his brother, who celebrated his 21st over the weekend, whom Marc surprised, with a secretly drawn quasi-caricature of his brother. This has been the result of delays this week and thus at Marc Forza Design, we can only hope you all are not too annoyed by the wait.
As usual remember to stay tuned every Friday, or at the least please be prepared for any delays, but that will come with notifications to explain why that will be updated with new content to the serial post.

Journal Ambience #3: New Narrative Idea - Concept Art/ Design - Ideation

Apologies again to all the followers and friends, but Journal Ambience #3 finally returns to showcase the work that happened last week.

Last week involved illustrations that are topically a temporary departure from the science fiction contextual work of the previous weeks. The theme in question was intended to celebrate the festive holidays that being “Close and Cherished Bonding”. Accompanying the brainstorming phase, the word “embrace” was always in the back of the mind throughout the design process, with these illustrations hoping to reflect the subtext in a subtle and intriguing manner. This project is still a work in progress and is currently in the ideation stage of development. In addition a mind map is being used, but is still in its construction state. This will be shared either Friday or next week.

Apart from this project, another one has also been in the works, but at this time it can’t be shown at the discretion of the client.  The unveiling of the work, should hopefully be permissible by next week?

Furthermore as a statement to my followers and friends, I hope you all can excuse the tardiness of this post and please be prepared and patient that this might not be the only time that a late post may occur. However you can all be certain that Marc Forza Design will endeavour to reciprocate and inform the community with as much clarity and haste as possible to the aforementioned situations.

Lastly I hope you enjoy and find interest in what has been in development and as always remember to stay tuned every Friday, for when this will be updated with new content. Also like and follow Marc’s other domains at:
