SA Weekend: Youth Edition Cover Competition

 - My Entry

In addition to the work presented in JA#19, I also took part in a competition, held by my town’s local news publication company, ‘The Advertiser’ to conceive a unique cover for their publication called, ‘SA Weekend’, for its ‘Youth Edition’.

The idea behind my creation, was to illustrate the great qualities of the youth. Their ingenuity, diversity and creativity and how they use these attributes, to combat adversarial obstacles. In essence, a social commentary of the state of youth’s careers at the moment and their struggle to be noticed and thus find jobs, in their desired fields. It is a visual message to proclaim and remind the world that they do embody great skills, talent and the determination to find opportunities. I suppose it’s also my current personal grief and message to everyone.

In the end, a total of 107 entries were entered into the competition and I was fortunately shortlisted as one of the top 20 finalists.

Last Friday I attended an evening event, held at the company’s office, where the winner’s cover would be revealed. Unfortunately, I was not the winner, but I am glad to have had the opportunity to see inside and marvel at the extravagant Advertiser building and network with several of its key staff and the other finalists.

I hope my illustration appealed to you?

Until next time, thank you for your support.

Journal Ambience (JA) #19 - Drawing Practices: (Andrew) Loomis - Human Head Studies, Life Drawings and Portrait Studies

Hi friends and followers,

I return to showcase my continual development, of practicing drawing Loomis - human head studies, life drawings and portrait studies.

Loomis - Human Head Studies:

The portraits, are of the prominent actor Peter Dinklage aka Tyrion Lannister, from television’s popular fantasy show, Game of Thrones. Additionally, one of these portraits will in fact be one of the illustrations that I will be showcasing and selling from July 18-20th, at Adelaide’s annual Anime and Video Game Convention, AVCON:

(Order of Progression/Development - Traditional Lead Based Illustrations)

Furthermore, I will be attempting to have copies available in colour and greyscale too.

Life drawing was once again conducted at CDW Studios and my drawings are presented with their respective time durations, of the model’s poses:

All in all, I hope you have enjoyed viewing this body of work?
